NO GODS NO MASTERS SERIES: SloW Pour
In this installment of our NGNM series, we showcase @slowpourbeerbar, founded by Shawn and Emily.
Slow Pour is two things:
1️⃣ A casual, intimate, and approachable beer bar.
2️⃣ Obsessively technical—mastering both beer brewing and pouring. As they say, “There is craft in making beer and there is craft in pouring beer.”
Shawn and Emily’s passion for craft beer began a decade ago, inspired by their European travels. On a trip to Pilsen, Czech Republic, they discovered Lukr’s Professional Tapster Training program. After enrolling, they trained under Ondřej Rozsypal, the 2022 Pilsner Urquell Master Bartender champion. Over two days, they poured nearly 100 beers, mastering various techniques, becoming the first Canadians professionally trained on a side pull tap.
In addition to her Professional Tapster Training, Emily brings extensive front-of-house experience from various breweries. Her background in Anthropology adds a deep cultural understanding of beer styles and history. Shawn’s experience as a brewer in Alberta provides technical expertise in brewing and beer. Emily and Shawn’s experiences offer customers at Slow Pour a rich and informed beer-drinking experience.
At Slow Pour, the team’s knowledge and passion are evident. Each staff member undergoes 16 hours of training, covering glassware science, cleanliness, temperature, pouring techniques, and foam types. This comprehensive training ensures that every beer served at Slow Pour is presented meticulously, providing a unique drinking experience in Alberta’s beer scene.
